ezSystems is moving to Italy (in 2026)

After a few years operating from Brazil, then Portugal, we finally decided to settle our company in Italy. Obviously this was not an easy call to make, but here's the TLDR;

It's cheaper.

ezSystems always was a remote-first, small company. Our goal always was, and forever will be, to provide the best possible service to our customers, with the best possible price. We also have a commitment with QUALITY, which obviously makes things a bit more difficult to manage in terms of costs.

Although we're not a big company, we're still a company, and we have to pay TAXES. Not only that, we also pay our collaborators for their work, we pay for the infrastructure (servers, domains etc.), and we pay for the software we use to provide our services. And although we use 99% open-source software, there are a few apps we just can't replace with open-source alternatives, being that because of our clients' needs, or because there simply isn't a good enough alternative. All that to say our costs are not insignificant.

For the past few years, both Brazil and Portugal have been going through a huge crisis. This is affecting prices for basically everything: basic services, rent, food...

Things are not looking great.

We had to cut some costs, following the horrible trend that is the hallmark of the last couple of years in the Tech market. We had to avoid asking for some of our collaborators to work on our internal projects - and as a direct result those projects are indeed delayed - and we had to make a decision about keeping the Braga office or not. We decided not.

After some research and asking people around we found that Italy, of all countries in Europe, is actually doing well where the majority of its neighbours is failing!

Italy is attracting digital nomads, companies of all sorts and expats/migrants, implementing great taxing policies which would give us at least five to TEN YEARS of exemption, which would allow us to invest in a proper office. And because Italy is the only country that is decreasing real estate prices, therefore going AGAINST the current trend in all of its neighbours, it's possible that we're not renting offices any more, but rather have our own place!

Combine that with the fact that most of Italy, apart from the big centres, has a very affordable cost of living, we surely see a great future for our company there!
